Dr Michael Dixon LVO OBE

Councillor

Dr Michael Dixon is an NHS GP at the Culm Valley Integrated Centre for Health in Cullompton, Devon.  He is Chair of the College of Medicine and Co-Chair of the National Social Prescribing Network.

He was previously a leader in the GP Commissioning movement as Chair of NHS Alliance (1998-2016) and President of NHS Clinical Commissioners (2012-2014), which aimed to give GPs and their patients a greater say in the services available to them.

Michael is Visiting Professor at University College, London and at Westminster University and Medical Advisor to HRH The Prince of Wales.  His recent book “A Time to Heal – Tales of a Country Doctor” describes his views on general practice – past and present.

The NHS is failing its patients and those who work within it. Radical reform is required if we are to realise the rhetoric of it being a health service rather than simply a sickness service. This will need to include an overhaul of systems, funding streams and culture. Reform, as an independent organisation with an enviable reputation, is well placed to lead the charge.
