Hashmath Hassan

Research and Events Assistant

I grew up in Colombo, Sri Lanka before moving to the UK for university. As an undergraduate, I studied Civil Engineering at the University of Bristol after which I completed a Masters at UCL in Comparative Politics. During my Masters I explored topics such as political polarisation, democratic backsliding, and institutional decision-making.

Shortly after graduating, I was a research volunteer at the Constitution Unit where I worked on analysing the discourse quality of Citizens Assembly sessions focusing on democracy in the UK after Brexit.

My favourite Reformer is…
C.W.W Kannangara who was part of Sri Lanka’s independence movement and first education minister. He introduced a set of education reforms that benefited underprivileged students, particularly, in rural communities including introducing free education to all.

What gets you out of bed in the morning?
My plants that need watering.
