Closing the Gap: From Welfare to Work
The UK labour market is booming: employment has never been higher and unemployment is at the lowest level since the early 1970s. That means more people than ever are enjoying the benefits of work, including better mental and physical health, reduced social exclusion and higher income. Yet despite this robust labour market, some groups continue to struggle to make the move from welfare to work. Social housing occupants are one of those groups, with research showing that, controlling for personal characteristics, employment rates are lower than for those renting in the private sector.
This event will bring together stakeholders including senior parliamentarians, policymakers, academics and private sector experts, for a timely discussion around innovative ways in which groups disproportionately affected by unemployment can be helped from welfare to work.
The roundtable will be held under the Chatham House rule.
