Universal credit and what it means for housing

Reform was delighted to hold a high-level roundtable on ‘Universal credit and what it means for housing’, led by Kit Malthouse MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Family Support, Housing and Child Maintenance.

Universal credit is the biggest overhaul in the benefits system since the founding of the welfare state. There remain opportunities to learn lessons from the implementation period, with 3.2 million housing benefit claimants set to move on to Universal Credit by March 2022 and take responsibility for paying rent directly to their landlord.

This roundtable explored how to ensure the Universal Credit rollout is as smooth as possible and how best it can achieve its core objectives.
