Alex Chisholm, Permanent Secretary, Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy

Targeting and rewarding high growth companies

Reform was delighted to convene a private policy roundtable led by Alex Chisholm, Permanent Secretary for the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, which discussed the future of high growth companies.

One of the new Prime Minister’s new priorities has been the need for a new industrial strategy that rewards and supports those British businesses that are best at producing growth. This includes high growth small enterprises, which are responsible for the creation of one in three new jobs, despite constituting only one per cent of all UK firms. This discussion highlighted how the government can best support small and medium enterprises with potential for high growth through both funding and regulation. It brought together 18-20 key figures from within government and representatives from high growth companies themselves.

The discussion was held under the Chatham House Rule.
