Exiting the European Union is both this parliament’s greatest challenge and its greatest opportunity. As Hilary Benn MP has highlighted, the degree of impact of Brexit on the UK economy is dependent on the outcome achieved in the negotiations. He has argued that the Government must seek to unite British voters; minimise uncertainty; protect the values that the UK shares with the EU, and develop a future relationship with the EU that strengthens Britain’s position globally. If these objectives are not met, public services and UK citizens will suffer. The need for high-level discussion on the mechanics, negotiations and implementation of the referendum’s result could hardly be greater.
We were delighted that Rt Hon Hilary Benn MP, Chair of the Select Committee for Exiting the European Union, who led this event. The breakfast brought together around 20 of Reform’s senior network, including senior business leaders, public service experts, and parliamentarians. It was held under the Chatham House Rule.
