The justice system is, on too many measures, at breaking point. From court backlogs to overcrowded prisons, action is needed to reboot the system in order to deliver swift, fair and safe justice.
This means addressing high reoffending rates that lead to more victims, and to lives thrown away to the revolving door of prison. Jobs, housing and family ties are key to preventing someone from returning to crime, and prisons must prepare offenders for life outside, not just punish them for their offences.
Reform was delighted to host this roundtable, led by Steve Reed MP, to discuss what could be done to reboot the criminal justice system, in to one we can all be confident in.
This roundtable was held under the Chatham House Rule.
