Reform was delighted that Rt Hon Brandon Lewis MP, Minister of State for Policing and the Fire Service, gave his first major speech on fire reform since joining the Home Office in July 2016. As reform of the fire and rescue service gathers pace, he set out how the Government is driving forward the reform agenda.
The Minister built upon the then Home Secretary’s – the Rt Hon Theresa May MP – speech to Reform in May, where she promised to deliver “a programme of reform [to fire and rescue services] that is as radical and ambitious as I have delivered in policing since 2010.” He set out his ambitions for closer working for emergency services, a more diverse workforce, an independent inspection regime and greater transparency.
