Britain’s life sciences sector has long been a key engine of economic growth and innovation, employing thousands across the country and serving as the biggest contributor to industrial research and development. Just as importantly, it has played a crucial role in meeting some of government’s most challenging objectives, from ensuring a stable supply of medicines through the Brexit transition period to powering a world leading vaccine programme during the pandemic.
Recognising the enormous potential of the sector, the Government published a comprehensive Life Sciences Vision in 2021 setting out plans to cement Britain’s position as a global leader in medical technology, pharmaceuticals, and clinical research.
Reform was delighted to host this roundtable, led by Lord Syed Kamall, Minister for Technology, Innovation and Life Sciences, on the role life sciences can play in driving economic performance and levelling up the country.
This event was held under the Chatham House rule.
