The UK border operates as the nation’s front door to the world. It is an asset which can allow frictionless entry to travellers and accurately identify and stop those who threaten the nation’s security.
For the vast majority of the 123 million people entering the UK, the border should be as virtual as possible, while maintaining confidence levels. Passengers can share information with security pre-arrival, receive directions to specific gates on their smartphones, and a facial or retinal scan can allow rapid entry to passengers – of less than 15 seconds. Collecting data on individuals and goods entering the country can identify those who pose a threat to the country, which allows border forces to uphold security.
Reform was delighted to host the Rt Hon Brandon Lewis MP, Minister of State for Immigration, to explore the opportunities for digital borders to meet the Government’s aim of a “truly Global Britain” following the UK’s departure from the European Union. The event will bring together a group of 20 high-level decision-makers and key stakeholders in the debate, including policymakers, industry representatives and other experts.
The event took place on Wednesday 19 July 2017 at 09.45am for 10.00am – 11.00am in London.
This event was held in partnership with Accenture and took place under the Chatham House Rule.
