Efficiency through innovation: building on reform success in NHS medicines and UK life sciences

The partnership between UK government and the life sciences industry is one of the most important drivers of NHS innovation. In turn, that innovation is one of the most important ways for the NHS to achieve its goals of improved clinical practice and greater efficiency. The Government has already introduced successful reforms to improve the uptake of new drugs and new medical technologies.

Ideas to improve health value for money are the subject of intense current debate. There is a need for a high-level discussion that assesses progress so far and generate further ideas on the effective collaboration between the NHS and industry, with a particular focus on the medicines budget.

Reform is thrilled to host a high-level roundtable to support the development of cooperative innovation within healthcare. The event will bring together 18-20 health experts, NHS practitioners, industry leaders and relevant policy makers. Lord O’Shaughnessy, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Health, will give the opening remarks before opening the discussion to the roundtable.

The event will be held under Chatham House Rule and is invitation-only. We are grateful to Pfizer for their support as sole sponsors of this meeting.
