Reform is delighted to be hosting a private roundtable event at the Labour Party Conference in partnership with Moderna.
World-class education and skills policy is essential to supercharging the UK's economy. Whether in digital industries, the life sciences, or the clean energy sector, generating high-skilled jobs is only possible when the education system is laser-focused on building a future-ready workforce. This means ensuring more young people focus on STEM throughout their educational journey, with higher education courses attracting a greater number of students and from a more diverse set of backgrounds. ln short, education is at the heart of delivering Labour's ambitious mission to secure the highest sustained growth in the G7.
Life sciences - as one of the UK's most successful sectors - is a case in point. Though the pandemic showed the strengths that already exist in the UK's offer - in delivering a British-made vaccine at remarkable speed – it remains a globally competitive marketplace. Securing its future and the high paid opportunities it can offer for British workers across the country demands long-term planning. Just as with other high-tech industries, the higher education system must shape a pipeline of skilled young people who can contribute to these high-growth sectors for the coming decades.
Reform is delighted that Matt Western MP, Shadow Minister for Higher Education, will be leading this Labour Party conference roundtable.
This roundtable will be held under the Chatham House rule and is kindly supported by Moderna.
