Delivering a data-driven, personalised approach to cancer care

In the UK, cancer remains the most common killer, causing 42 per cent of premature deaths every year. Estimates suggest that more than one in three people will develop cancer. Faster diagnosis, a better use of data and more innovative treatments must be at the heart of the NHS Long-Term Plan to tackle cancer. A better collection and analysis of data, such as the 100-000-genome project, which is now being expanded so that 1 million genomes will be sequenced, will be vital. Making better use of data can help to improve cancer outcomes by delivering timely and personalised treatments to patients, accelerating access to cancer medicines, and supporting the delivery of ground-breaking research.
