Data protection and security: how can the government protect people online?

People’s lives and the services they use are increasingly being delivered online. As the role of online services continues to grow, protecting people and their data is extremely important, particularly for vulnerable groups most at risk of being exploited. The Government has rightly taken data protection seriously, as demonstrated through its implementation of GDPR via the 2018 Data Protection Act. In its role as a regulator and legislator, Government can enable best practice to flourish in the UK whilst protecting its most vulnerable citizens.

Reform was delighted to host this roundtable, led by Andrew Elliot, Deputy Director, Data Protection and Digital Identity, Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, to discuss how the government can better protect citizens online.
