Rt Hon Elizabeth Truss MP, Chief Secretary to the Treasury

A culture of public service efficiency through digital innovation

Reform is delighted to welcome the Rt Hon Elizabeth Truss MP, Chief Secretary to the Treasury, to lead this roundtable exploring 'A culture of public service efficiency through digital innovation'.

Digital innovation is now the most exciting set of opportunities available to the UK public sector. Different public service organisations are already using digital as a better means of engagement between government and citizen. They are also using data analytics to understand their customers and operations at a much higher level. In the future, it is likely that government will find common digital approaches to particular tasks (for example identity verification), helping to remove the siloes between different public services and greatly increase efficiency.

Accelerating these developments will lead to faster improvements in outcomes for citizens. They will also improve the productivity of public services which is key in an era when public finances are tight yet citizen expectations are rising. They will contribute to the building of a culture of efficiency and improvement in the public sector, where innovation becomes business as usual.

This event will explore digital innovations that are happening now in the public sector and what can be learnt from them. This event will bring together around 20 - 25 senior attendees and will be held under the Chatham House Rule.
