Accelerating to net zero: greener transport for faster growth

Reform is delighted to be hosting a private roundtable event at Conservative Party Conference in partnership with Coventry City Council.

Reaching net zero is an ambitious undertaking, that will require transformation across all sectors of the economy – bringing with it enormous opportunities for economic prosperity and the chance to deliver real benefits to local communities.

Investing in fully electrified mass transit systems, for example, has the potential to transform public transport, reducing our reliance on high carbon alternatives. But this can also create a more financially sustainable mode of travel, reduce noise and air pollution, and create thousands of new, high skilled jobs in research, science, technology and manufacturing.

Across the country, there are promising examples of innovation that can be scaled, at relatively low cost, to help achieve this: from electric bikes in London, to zero carbon buses in York and the ‘very light rail’ system in the West Midlands.

Making the most of these opportunities will require bold action, both centrally and locally, in harnessing the exciting innovations in the sector.

Reform is delighted that Rt Hon Jesse Norman MP, Minister for Decarbonisation and Technology in the Department for Transport, will be leading this Conservative Party conference roundtable.

This roundtable will be held under the Chatham House rule and is kindly supported by Coventry City Council.
